PNG for screens and packaging, SVG for print at any size. The code is static, so it never expires.
Static vs dynamic QR codes
The codes made here are static: the destination is encoded directly into the pattern. They work forever, need no account and cannot be switched off by a vendor. The trade-off is that you cannot change the destination after printing. If you need to swap links later, point the code at a short URL you control and change where that redirects.
Paid dynamic QR services store the destination on their server and charge monthly. For packaging, menus, business cards and shipping inserts, a static code pointing at your own domain is usually the better choice.
QR codes for ecommerce
Packaging inserts that open a review page or a reorder link are the most common use. Product tags that open the product page work well for in-person markets. A code on a shipping box that opens tracking, a discount code for the next order, or your Instagram handle all turn one purchase into a second contact.
Add UTM parameters to the URL before you generate the code so you can see in analytics how many scans became visits. The UTM builder in this collection does that.
Making sure it scans
Keep high contrast: dark pattern on a light background. Leave the quiet zone, the blank margin around the code, at least four modules wide. Print at 2 cm or larger for packaging, and test with both an iPhone and an Android camera before a print run. If you add a logo, raise the error-correction level to H so the hidden area can be recovered.
