Image sizes marketplaces actually want

Amazon: main images at least 1000 px on the longest side, ideally 2000 px, on pure white, product filling 85% of the frame. Etsy: 2000 by 2000 px square for listings, 3000 wide for the shop banner. eBay: 1600 px longest side, minimum 500. Shopify and most store themes: 2048 by 2048 square keeps zoom crisp. Instagram: 1080 by 1080 square or 1080 by 1350 portrait. Meta and Google Shopping ads: 1200 by 1200 minimum.

The presets above match those numbers. Use pad to square with white when a product photo is not square and the marketplace wants it to be.

Compression without visible loss

WebP at quality 80 is around 30% smaller than a JPG of the same visual quality and every modern browser shows it. JPG at 82 is the safe choice when an old marketplace form rejects WebP. PNG only makes sense for graphics with transparency; for photos it is three to five times larger for no benefit.

A product page with ten 400 KB images loads in a fraction of the time of one with ten 3 MB images, and page speed is a ranking factor in Google Shopping and organic results. Aim for under 300 KB per image.

Why processing in the browser matters

Your photos are not uploaded. Resizing and compression run on your device using the browser's own image engine, which means no wait for uploads, no file size limit imposed by a server, and no copy of your product shots sitting on someone else's disk. It also works offline once the page has loaded.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Close the tab and nothing remains anywhere.
What is the maximum file size?
There is no server limit. Very large files, above 50 MB, may be slow on older phones.
Which formats can I upload?
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and, on Safari and recent Chrome, HEIC from an iPhone.
Which output format should I choose?
WebP for your own store and most modern marketplaces. JPG when a platform does not accept WebP. PNG only if you need transparency.
What size should Amazon product images be?
At least 1000 px on the longest side, ideally 2000 px, on a pure white background, product filling 85% or more of the frame. Use the Amazon preset.
What size should Etsy listing photos be?
2000 by 2000 px square. Etsy crops thumbnails to square, so pad to square here to control what shows.
Can I resize many images at once?
Yes. Drop up to 20 and download them together as a ZIP, each keeping its original name.
Does resizing remove EXIF data?
Yes. The output is re-encoded, which strips location and camera metadata. That is usually what you want for images you publish.
